News

Think of News as a “living” content box on a slide. You do not upload a file. You point News at a source (BBC, Google News, your own RSS URL, and so on), and Play keeps the box filled with current articles.

You need:

1. A playlist (any aspect ratio that matches your screens — for example 16:9)
2. At least one slide in that playlist
3. The News plugin added to that slide
4. A publish after you save your changes
   

Add the News plugin to a slide

Step 1 — Open a playlist

• Go to Playlists: https://my.playsignage.com/playlists
• Click the playlist preview or Edit
• Or create a new playlist first (+ Create Playlist), name it, choose the aspect ratio (for example 16:9), then open the editor

Step 2 — Select the slide

• In the playlist editor, click slide 1 (or the slide where you want news to appear)
• Make sure you are looking at the canvas for that slide

Step 3 — Find News

• Open the content / plugins panel in the editor (the place where you add images, videos, and plugins)
• Search for News, or browse until you see the News plugin
• Click or drag News onto the slide

Tip: If you cannot find News, type News in the search box inside the editor’s add-content panel. It is a plugin, not a file upload.

Step 4 — Place it on the slide

• Resize and move the News box like any other object on the canvas
• Leave enough space for headlines and images so text stays readable from a distance

Step 5 — Choose a news source

With the News object selected, open its settings on the right (or the plugin settings panel). Then pick how you want stories to arrive:

1. Search for a source — type a name such as BBC, ESPN, Bloomberg, Google News, or New York Times, then select it
2. Pick a popular / predefined source — choose from the list of common outlets
3. Paste your own RSS feed URL — use this for company news, a local paper, or any site that publishes RSS

Example: search BBC, then choose a feed such as Top Stories.

Step 6 — Adjust how News looks and behaves

Common settings you can change:

• Layout — how the article card is arranged
• Number of articles — how many stories News cycles through
• Rotation / update interval — how many seconds each article stays before the next one
• Orientation — landscape or portrait, to match your playlist
• Publication time — show or hide when the article was published
• Images — full image or maximized image
• QR code — on/off, so viewers can scan and read the full article on their phone

For a lobby screen, fewer articles and a slower interval are usually easier to read.

Step 7 — Save and publish

• Leave the editor (changes are usually saved as you go)
• On the playlists overview, click Publish if the button is yellow (unpublished changes)
• Green publish means the latest version is already published

Until you publish, screens keep showing the old version of the playlist.

Use the News plugin (everyday tips)

Change the source later: open the playlist → select the slide → click the News object → change source or RSS URL → publish again. Make text readable on a TV: use a larger News box, fewer articles, and a longer interval. Avoid a tiny corner on a busy slide. Use your own company feed: paste an RSS URL from your CMS, intranet, or blog as a custom feed, then publish. Match portrait or landscape: create the playlist in the same aspect ratio as the screen, and set News orientation to match. You cannot change a playlist’s aspect ratio after creation. Put News on more than one slide: add News again on another slide (or copy the slide). Each instance can use a different source.

Edit News on a slide

Open the playlist → click the slide → click the News object → change settings → publish.

Remove (delete) the News plugin

Remove News from a slide (keep the playlist):

1. Open the playlist editor
2. Select the slide that has News
3. Click the News object on the canvas
4. Delete it (Delete / Backspace, or the editor’s delete control)
5. Confirm if asked
6. Publish so screens stop showing News

Delete the whole slide: select the slide → remove/delete the slide → publish. Delete the entire playlist: Playlists → Settings (gear) → Remove → confirm. If the playlist is used in a group or schedule, read the warning carefully first.
