Get up & running with digital signage using our player or your own hardware.

Using our player

1. Adjust display bounds (optional)

Make sure the red border stretches from edge to edge & proceed to the next step.

2. Connect to a network

In step 2, you’ll see a list of WiFi networks. Select one & and enter the password.
You can also plug in a Ethernet cable if you have the option.

3. Claim screen

After connecting to WiFi, step 3 of the setup will prompt you to pair your screen via a 6 digit pairing code.
Go to playsignage.com/manage/screens and press on the ‘Add screen’ button.
Type the pairing code and press on ‘Add screen’. You’re done!

Do it yourself

Prerequisites

  • A device that can run Google Chrome (Windows, macOS, Linux) or an Android device
  • A Play. account (don’t have one?)
  • A cup of hot coffee — don’t burn your tongue!

Setup Play. using our Chrome extension

OS: Windows, Linux or macOS

1. Prepare your device

We suggest you start with a clean install of your OS of choice.

Here’s a checklist of things you should take care of:

  1. Wipe the device (format / re-install OS if necessary)
  2. Verify that your time zone is correctly set (for schedules)
  3. Disable screensavers / automatic standby
  4. For low-powered devices remove unused applications & disable intensive interface effects (transparency, animations, etc) where applicable

2. Install latest Google Chrome (Chromium browser also fine)

3. Install our extension

Get the latest version from the chrome app store.

4. Claim screen

Once the extension has started, you will see a 6 digit pairing code.

Go to playsignage.com/manage/screens and click on the (+) to the bottom right.

Type the pairing code (and other optional information if you wish) and click on ‘Add screen’. You’re done!

Setup Play. using our Android application

1. Get app

Install the app from the Google Play Store.

2. Plug in device & connect to a network

After powering on the player & connecting to the screen, you will be guided through the rest of the installation. You can skip step 1 if the image looks alright, the only thing left to do is connect to a WiFi network.

3. Claim screen

After connecting to WiFi, go to the last step and you will see a 6 digit pairing code.

Go to playsignage.com/manage/screens and press on ‘Add screen’.

Type the pairing code and press on ‘Add screen’. You’re done!

Setup Play. on a Chrome box

There are 2 ways to setup a Chrome OS device. It can either be as a regular extension or by setting the device into kiosk mode. Kiosk mode will prevent access to the rest of the system and will only run the Play. extension in fullscreen.Note: if you plan to use the Chrome box for a touch screen, you should enable the on-screen keyboard from accessibility settings.

I. Normal install

 

1. Connect to a network

After powering on the player & connecting it to a screen, connect to a network.

2. Install our extension

Install the latest version of our player from the Chrome web store.

3. Enable on-screen keyboard (optional)

Go to device Settings -> Accessibility and tick the ‘On-screen keyboard’ option if you plan to use this device with a touch screen.

4. Claim screen

After connecting to WiFi, go to the last step and you will see a 6 digit pairing code.

Go to playsignage.com/manage/screens and press on ‘Add screen’.

Type the pairing code and press on ‘Add screen’. You’re done!


II. Kiosk mode install

1. Wipe device and set to development mode

Before starting you need to wipe your chrome device. See per device instructions here: https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/1360642

IMPORTANT! Keep the device in developer mode (don’t go back to verified mode after wiping).

2. Turn on kiosk mode

After wipe is complete, connect to a network & accept the terms but DO NOT login yet.

Press CTRL + ALT + K to enable kiosk mode.

3. Login and install our extension

You can now login to the chromebox (you might need to create a new Google account).

Install our extension from the Chrome web store.

4. Enable on-screen keyboard (optional)

Go to device Settings -> Accessibility and tick the ‘On-screen keyboard’ option if you plan to use this device with a touch screen.

5. Turn on developer mode and set app to auto-launch

Open Chrome & go to extensions from the settings menu (you can also go to chrome://extensions).

On the extensions page, tick ‘developer mode’ on the top right.

Copy the extension id (you may need to scroll down a bit).

Scroll back to the top of the page, press on ‘Manage kiosk applications’.

Enter the copied extension id and press ‘add’.

Press on the newly added row (or hover to highlight) and click on ‘Set to auto-launch’.

Reboot device.

After rebooting, you will be asked to confirm that the extension should automatically start when the machine turns on. Press on ‘confirm’.

 

6. Claim screen

After connecting to WiFi, go to the last step and you will see a 6 digit pairing code.

Go to playsignage.com/manage/screens and press on ‘Add screen’.

Type the pairing code and press on ‘Add screen’. You’re done!
