Cropping images is a valuable tool for creating effective digital signage. Use the crop feature in Play Digital Signage to select the perfect portion of an image, optimize large images for your players, and ensure your content looks its best on any screen.
We now also support the circular image cropping right in the editor.
Change the shape of an image
Changing the shape of an image can be useful when the image is either to wide or heigh, or in case it needs to fit with other objects or even inside an object.
- Click Playlists
- Find your playlist and click Edit
- Find the slide with the image you'd like to edit
- Click to select the image
- Click Crop in the setting on the right
- Choose a shape at the top, move the edges, and/or change the width and height
- Click Save
Depending on what you are trying to do, you have several tools to edit the image. In the top you can pick a specific aspect ratio, Free or a circle. Notice that if you pick 4:3 the aspect ratio sticks if you move the edges, and if you pick Free, none of the edges are connected. no matter what you do here, whatever is within the blue edges is what will be visible on the canvas.

Downscale an image
Downsizing is something we recommend you do if you have high-resolution images and your media player or smart TV is having a hard time handling the load. For example, let's say you have a HD playlist (1920x1080) and you add 4 images at 1920x1080 to a slide, that is 4 times the pixel you need to have a crisp image, so we would recommend you downscale them to 480x270 each. This is the example we're using here.
- Click Playlists
- Find your playlist and click Edit
- Find the slide with the image you'd like to edit
- Click to select the image
- Click Crop in the setting on the right
- In width, input 480
- In height, input 270
- Click Save
- Aspect Ratio (Topbar) - Pick a preset aspect ratio and/or shape
- Width - The width of the image
- Height - The height of the image
- Maintain position after resize - Toggle on to keep the image in the current position
Can I resize my image to optimize my TV's resolution?
Yes, click the image you want to resize, click the crop tool, and enter the max. width in the cropping tool and click Save.
Why should I resize my 4K images?
Not all media players support 4K, and therefore, every time they load a 4K image, the media player spends unnecessary resources downscaling the image.
