About
The Play app is the Play editor on your phone or tablet. Add and manage screens, edit slides, schedule playlists, upload photos and videos and publish your changes, wherever you are. It works with the Play account you already use at my.playsignage.com, so everything you change in the app is on the web too, and the other way round.
The Play app is the Editor App: it is for managing your digital signage. It doesn’t show your content on a TV; your screens run the Player App, see the setup guides for your device.
The app is free, with no in-app purchases. Get it on Google Play for Android phones and tablets. The app for iPhone and iPad is coming soon to the App Store. Read more about the app on the Play app page.
Get Started
Install the app and sign in
Download Play from Google Play on your Android phone or tablet, open it and tap Sign in.
Sign in the same way as on the web: with your e-mail and password, or with Apple, Google, Microsoft or Facebook. If your account has two-factor authentication, you enter your code as usual.
New to Play? Create a free account first; your first screen is free.
The app at a glance
The app has four tabs at the bottom:
- Screens: every screen in your team, with its online status, group and playlist.
- Playlists: your playlists, where you edit slides and publish.
- Groups: your groups, their base playlist and schedule.
- More: Team & Members, Library and your team’s billing pages.
Your picture at the top right opens your Account. Pull down on Screens, Playlists or Groups to refresh them.
Add a screen
Install the Player App on your TV, media player or computer first (see the setup guides). It shows a QR code and a six-character pairing code.
- On Screens, tap the blue + at the bottom.
- Scan the QR code on the screen with your phone’s camera, or tap Enter pairing code and type the code.
- Give the screen a name and pick a group, if you like.
- Choose a production screen or a trial screen. Trial screens are for testing: they aren’t charged and show a watermark on your content.
The app only asks for the camera when you tap to scan, and uses it only for the pairing code.
Check your screens
Screens shows every screen as a tile: a green dot when it is online, a red dot when it is offline (with when it was last seen), its group and the playlist it is playing. The Offline and Needs publish tiles at the top count the screens that need you; search finds a screen by name.
Tap a screen to change its group, see its settings and information, share it, or remove it. Settings like Launch player on startup, Display orientation and Screen edges are the same as on the web; see Screens and Screen Edges.
Publish your changes
Changes reach your screens when you publish, as on the web. Look for the rocket:
- Green: the screen or group shows the latest version.
- Yellow: there are changes that aren’t published yet.
- Red: the screen has never been published.
Tap the rocket on a screen or group tile, or at the top right of a screen, group or playlist page, to publish.
Edit playlists and slides
On Playlists, tap a playlist, then Edit content. The slide opens in the editor, with all the playlist’s slides in a strip below it: tap one to open it, drag to move it.
- Add text, shapes, pictures and videos from your Library, icons and emojis.
- Add plugins such as Weather, Clock, Ticker, YouTube, RSS, Website and Google Slides.
- Start a slide from a template, from your Slide Stash, or create several at once with Multi Create.
- Set each slide’s duration, transition, conditions and background music, and add animations to elements.
Tap the blue + on Playlists to create a new playlist. Afterwards, publish the playlist to send it to your screens.
Groups and schedules
On Groups, tap a group to see its screens, change its base playlist, turn Content Synchronization on or off, and plan which playlist plays when. Read more in Groups and Scheduling.
Standby holds screens that aren’t in a group; use it to switch a screen off for a while.
Upload photos and videos
Go to More > Library and tap the blue +. Pick photos and videos from your phone, or a file. They are added to your Library, ready to use on your slides.
Team and account
More > Team & Members lets admins add team members, change their role or remove them. If you belong to more than one team, Switch Team takes you to another one.
Tap your picture at the top right for your Account: your name, product update e-mails, two-factor authentication, appearance (light or dark), log out and delete your account.
Options
Biometric unlock
Turn on Biometric unlock in your Account settings (Face ID on iPhone and iPad) to open the app with your fingerprint or face instead of signing in each time.
Appearance
Choose System, Light or Dark in your Account. System follows your phone’s setting.
Profile photo
Tap the picture next to your name in your Account to add, replace or remove a photo. It is kept on your phone only.
FAQ
Is the Play app free?
Yes. The app is free to download and has no in-app purchases. Your plan is the same whether you use the app, the web or both.
Which phones and tablets does it work on?
Android phones and tablets, from Google Play. The app for iPhone and iPad is coming soon to the App Store. On a tablet the app uses the extra space, for example with a calendar view for schedules.
Is this the app that shows my content on the TV?
No. The Play app is the Editor App, for managing your digital signage. Your screens run the Player App on a TV, media player or computer: see the setup guides for your device.
Can I do everything in the app that I can do on the web?
Almost everything you do day to day. A few things are still only at my.playsignage.com, such as connecting Facebook, Instagram, Google Drive or Power BI, the QR Code and AI Image plugins, and organising your Library in folders. You use the same account in both, so you can switch at any time.
Do changes in the app show on the web?
Yes. The app and the web use the same account and the same content, so a change in one is in the other right away. Your screens get it when you publish.
Can I change my subscription in the app?
The app shows your subscription, billing details, transactions and documents to team owners. To change your plan, go to my.playsignage.com or contact us in the live chat.
Does the app track me?
No. The app has no analytics or tracking tools. Read how we handle your data in our privacy policy.
