Google Reviews plugin

Google Reviews

Show your best Google reviews and your star rating on your screens, with a QR code to leave a review.

About

The Google Reviews plugin shows the Google reviews of your own business on your screens. Reviews rotate on a card with the reviewer’s name, photo, star rating and text, next to your overall rating and the number of reviews. A QR code lets customers leave a review from their phone.

You connect the plugin to your Google Business Profile, so it shows reviews of the businesses you manage on Google. You decide which reviews are shown, for example only 4 and 5 stars, and the screens keep themselves up to date.

Get Started

Add Google Reviews to a slide

  • Open the playlist and the slide where you want your reviews
  • Click Plugins in the top toolbar
  • Search for Google Reviews in the Add Plugin window, and click the Google Reviews tile
  • The set-up window opens. Connect your Google Business Profile and choose your business (see below)
  • Choose a layout and the other settings (see Options below), and close the window
  • Click Publish

Connect your Google Business Profile

  • In the set-up window, click Connect Google Business Profile
  • A Google sign-in window opens. Sign in with the Google account that manages your business on Google
  • Allow Play Digital Signage to read your Business Profile

You only need to do this once per Google account. You can connect several Google accounts, and each Google Reviews plugin can show a different business.

Choose the business

  • After connecting, open the Business dropdown in the set-up window
  • Pick the business whose reviews you want to show

The dropdown lists every business your Google account manages. If it manages only one, it’s picked for you.

Change the settings

  • Open the playlist and the slide with your reviews
  • Click the reviews on the canvas to select them
  • Click Modify Google Reviews Plugin in the settings on the right
  • Change what you need, and close the window
  • Click Publish

Disconnect a Google account

  • Open the set-up window (see Change the settings)
  • Click Disconnect next to the Google account

Plugins that show a business from that account stop showing reviews, until you connect again and choose a business.

Remove Google Reviews from a slide

  • Open the playlist and the slide with your reviews
  • Click the reviews on the canvas to select them
  • Click Remove or press Backspace on your keyboard
  • Click Publish

Options

Business

The business whose reviews are shown. Only businesses that your connected Google accounts manage are listed.

Layout

  • Review + overall rating (default): a review next to your overall rating. It adapts to the shape of the plugin: side by side when it’s wide, stacked when it’s tall, and a compact rating header when it’s square
  • Rotating review: only the reviews
  • Overall rating only: your business name, average rating, stars and number of reviews. It doesn’t rotate

Minimum rating

Show only reviews with at least this many stars: 5 only, 4 and up (default), 3 and up, or all ratings.

Only reviews with text

On by default. Hides reviews that only have stars and no text.

Number of reviews

How many reviews to rotate through, from 1 to 50. The default is 10.

Order

Newest first (default), or highest rated first.

Change review

  • Every few seconds (default): the next review shows after the number of seconds you choose under Seconds per review
  • Each time the slide is shown: one review per showing of the slide

The plugin remembers where it is, so a short slide still moves through all your reviews instead of starting over at the first one.

Seconds per review

How long each review is shown, from 4 to 60 seconds. The default is 10.

Transition

How one review changes to the next: fade (default), slide or none.

Reviewer name, photo and date

Show or hide the reviewer’s name, photo and the date of the review. All three are on by default. Reviewers who posted anonymously show as “A Google user”, and when a photo is missing, the reviewer’s initials are shown instead. The date can be relative (“2 weeks ago”, default) or a date.

Your response

Show your business’s reply to the review, below the review. Off by default.

QR code

On by default. Shows a QR code that opens your business’s Google review page, so customers can leave a review from their phone.

Maximum lines of text

Long reviews first get a smaller font. If they still don’t fit, they are cut off with “…” after this many lines, from 2 to 12. The default is 6.

Style

Pick Light (default), Dark or Glass, or Custom to choose the text color, star color, background color, background opacity and rounded corners yourself.

Font

Any of our fonts (Open Sans by default) or your own custom fonts.

Language

The language of dates, numbers and labels: Same as screen (default), or English, Dansk, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano, Nederlands, Norsk, Polski, Português, Suomi or Svenska. Reviews are always shown as they were written.

FAQ

Can I show reviews of any business?

No. The plugin shows reviews of businesses you manage on Google, through your Google Business Profile. You can’t search for other businesses.

How often are the reviews updated?

New reviews are picked up from Google within 6 hours.

Why is a review missing?

Check your settings: reviews below the Minimum rating are hidden, star-only reviews are hidden when Only reviews with text is on, and only the number of reviews you chose is shown. The plugin also reads only your latest 50 reviews from Google. If no review matches your settings, only your overall rating is shown.

Are reviews translated?

No. Reviews are shown in the language they were written in. The Language option only changes dates, numbers and labels.

What happens when a screen goes offline?

The screen keeps showing the reviews it already has for up to 72 hours. After that, the plugin’s area stays empty until the screen is back online.

Why does the editor show only one review?

The editor and the set-up window show the first review, so you can see the design. The reviews rotate on your screens.

The plugin area is empty on my screen. Why?

Make sure a business is chosen, the Google account is still connected, and the screen is online. Also check that the player app on the screen is up to date.

Can I animate Google Reviews?

Not with entrance or exit animations. The reviews change with the transition you choose under Options.
