Plugin doesn’t work

Here at Play Digital Signage we try to add new functionality to our product every month. If we add a new plugin, then we also need to update existing players so they know how to display the new plugin. We’ve worked hard to make this process as smooth as possible, so most users don’t even notice when their devices update, but under certain circumstances the player may not update automatically. If you add a new plugin that is not supported in the older player version, it will simply not be shown in order to maintain backwards compatibility.  You will get a warning message in the web portal stating that the plugin is not visible on that device. All our updates are backwards compatible, so even if your player device is not auto updating for some reason, what is currently working on your device will keep on working!

Why didn’t my device update automatically?


For Android devices the most common scenario is if you’ve installed our app directly from the .APK file and not via an app store (Google Play store or Amazon Appstore), in this case there are no auto updates happening.

Manual update:
Simply download the latest .APK file and open it with the file manager, Android will prompt you to update the installed application without losing data.

If your device is rooted, you can contact our support to request a custom app updater program from us that will keep our app up to date even if you’re not using any appstore!

Window / Mac / Linux

Our player will request updates from the release server every day between 00:00 and 06:00. If your device is behind a firewall, you need to white-list the release server domain at or update requests won’t go through.

Manual update:
Download the latest .exe / .dmg / .AppImage file and double-click on it. This will install the latest player version on your device, but does not overwrite configuration, so you don’t have to link the player again!
