Before you begin, you need to make sure you have the following (Recommended software and hardware).

  • Raspberry PI Case
  • Raspberry PI Board
  • Raspberry PI Active Cooler
  • Raspberry PI Power Supply
  • Sandisk Ultra MicroSD Card
  • 1080P Full-HD Webcam
  • MicroSD Card reader

Download and burn our image on a MicroSD Card

Follow these instructions to download the package containing Raspberry PI and Audience Aware.

  • Download Etcher
  • Download the Raspberry PI package (Holds RPI OS and Audience Aware BETA)
  • Open Etcher
  • Click Flash from file
  • Find the file you just downloaded, called people-counter.img
  • Click Open
  • Click Select Target
  • Plug in your SD card reader and wait for the device to pop up on the list of possible targets
  • Check the SD card
  • Click Select
  • Click Flash!

You might be asked to enter your computer's password.

Depending on the SD card this can take anything from a few minutes to half an hour.

Assembling the Raspberry PI

You can skip this part if you already have a running Raspberry PI.

  • Take off the lid of the case
  • Separate the two parts of the case
  • Remove the fan from the upper part
  • Remove the protection on the active cooler and mount it to the board
  • Remove the plug covering the connector closest to the USB connection port
  • Mount the active cooler plug in the connector closest to the USB connection port
  • Install the MicroSD card on the board
  • Mount the board in the lower part of the case
  • Mount the upper part of the case to the lower part of the case
  • Mount the lid to the case

Connecting the Raspberry PI

Make sure you have an HDMI to micro HDMI cable.

  • Connect the MicroHDMI
  • Connect a LAN cable (Optional)
  • Connect keyboard and mouse
  • Connect the power supply
  • Connect the camera

Getting started

When the Raspberry PI boots up it will automatically run the application Person Detector. If you do not see the application after boot up, you can start it from the desktop, simply double click playsignage-audience.

  • In the top right corner, click the network icon.
  • Click your WIFI SSID
  • Enter your WIFI password and click Connect
  • Click the network icon once again, then Advanced Options and Connection Information
  • Write down your IP address*
  • Go to my.playsignage.com, log in
  • Go to Screens, open settings for the screen that you’d like to link to your Raspberry PI
  • Toggle on Analytics
  • Go to Audience agent URL and input the IP address in the following format http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:5005

* It’s recommended you assign a static IP address to your device or reserve the IP address in your router.
