We try to add new functionality to our product as frequently as we can. When adding new plugins, we also need to update all players in our network. We’ve worked hard to make this process as smooth as possible, so in most cases, you won’t even notice when this happens.
Under certain circumstances, the player may not update automatically. If you add a new plugin that is not supported in your current player version, it will simply not be shown to maintain backward compatibility. You will see a warning message in the web portal saying the plugin is not visible. All our updates are backward compatible, so even if your player device is not auto-updating for some reason, what is currently working on your device will keep on working!
Android and Amazon
For Android devices, the most common reason is that you installed our app directly from the .APK file and not from an app store (Google Play Store, Amazon Appstore, etc.). In that case, there are no automatic updates.
Manual update:
Simply download the latest .APK file and open it with the file manager. Android will prompt you to update the installed application without losing data.
If your device is rooted, you can contact our support to request a custom app updater program from us that will keep our app up to date even without an app store.
Windows, Mac, and Linux
Our player will request updates from the release server every day between 00:00 and 06:00. If your device is behind a firewall, you need to allowlist the release server domain release.playsignage.com, or update requests won’t go through.
Manual update:
Download the latest version here – Windows .exe / Mac .dmg / Linux .AppImage. Double-click the package to install the latest version of the player software.
