This release of the Play Digital Signage app (version 1.10) brings two new ways to use RSS feeds, and makes Raspberry Pi easy for everyone.
Media RSS
Media RSS is an extension of the RSS standard that adds images and videos to a feed. It opens the door to ready-made content from third-party providers: stock prices, weather, sports, news and much more. Each item in the feed brings its own picture or video, and often its own duration.
Read how to start in our Media RSS guide.
RSS Ticker
The RSS Ticker is built on our existing ticker, but instead of typing the text yourself, you give it the address of an RSS feed. The ticker then scrolls the newest headlines across the screen. Choose whether to show each item’s title, its text, or both.
See the RSS Ticker guide.
Raspberry Pi for everyone
Raspberry Pi has worked with Play since day one, but only for people with Linux experience. Not any more: we now have our own Raspberry Pi image and a simple Raspberry Pi setup guide anyone can follow. Write the file to an SD card, put it in the Pi and turn it on.
A Raspberry Pi is one of the most affordable digital signage players there is, so this makes it easy to put a screen almost anywhere.
