Viejas Casino & Resort in Alpine, California, is owned and operated by the Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians. Beyond the gaming floor it has a hotel, a spa, restaurants and a live entertainment venue, and every part of it needs to tell guests what’s on and where to go.
The challenge: a complicated signage market
Anthony San Pietro, Vice President of Entertainment & Branding, oversees all content on the resort’s screens. His team found the digital signage market hard to navigate: screen licences, maintenance agreements, resellers in the middle, and prices tied to long contracts or market types. Working out the real cost of a setup was a puzzle in itself.
The solution: one simple platform for the whole property
The team found Play through a Google search and tested it in several places around the resort. Setup was so straightforward that Anthony called it “almost too easy”, and Play quickly became their preferred tool.
Today Play runs screens all over the property:
- information boards on the casino floor
- show menus and concert details
- promotions and directions for guests
- wayfinding and room signage
- screens in the restaurants and on the shuttle buses
Adding or removing a screen is quick, and the team gets an overview of the whole property in one place.
“Play just works, it’s reliable, it’s flexible, highly affordable, and has multiple user abilities.” – Anthony San Pietro
The result
Viejas uses three digital signage companies, and Play is now its go-to platform among them. The team chose it for its pricing and reliability, and for how easily it adapts to very different places, from the pool area to a shuttle bus. According to Anthony, Play has improved the property’s look and has also boosted its bottom line.
What other hotels and venues can take from this
- Pick a platform with clear pricing and no long contracts, so you know what each screen costs.
- Use the same system everywhere: lobby, restaurants, event spaces and transport.
- Test on a few screens first, then roll out.
