Digital signage has many unique features that make it beneficial for businesses in all industries and of all sizes. Many of these features stem from the variety of options there are for digital signage content.
Today we are going to focus on how you can use QR codes in digital signage. QR codes are just one digital signage content element but are one that can make your digital signage engaging, informative, and interactive.
Here’s everything you need to know about using QR codes in your digital signage.
Using QR codes in your digital signage content offers benefits that just pasting a URL onto the slide can’t offer.
For one, QR codes are much easier for your audience to use. The information or link that you are trying to share goes right to their device. It is also easy for you as the digital signage manager and curator to use as it can be set up with just a few clicks.
Without using a QR code in your digital signage content, there are two main ways for you to share a link with your audience.
The first requires you to have touchscreen-enabled digital signage so that they can click the link. The other way requires your audience to type in the link from your screen onto their own device.
Neither of these ways is great because if they click the link, then your other content isn’t showing and no one wants to take the time to copy the link into their own devices and therefore not many people will see it.
Instead, with a QR code, you don’t have to have a touchscreen your audience just has to hold up their smartphone camera and it will take them to the link you have generated.
Let’s face it– URLs are ugly. They often have a bunch of random numbers and letters and can be quite long. A QR code has a sleek design that can fit into almost any content. You can also choose how much it blends in or stands out. We don’t know about you, but in our opinion, a QR code is much more attractive to look at than a standard URL.
QR codes don’t have to be just plain black and white. Not only can you customize the colors of the design, but you can also add text, icons, a call to action, and more. Of course, what destination the QR code leads to is also highly customizable.
So we have talked a lot about how you can use QR codes for a wide variety of things in your digital signage content. Now, let’s go over some digital signage content ideas with QR codes in more detail. Of course, this is not a comprehensive list, but it’s a good start to gathering some inspiration.
One of the most obvious digital signage content ideas with QR codes is to use them to link your website. If you have a useful website that you have already painstakingly curated, give your digital signage audience the opportunity to learn more about your company or take a look at the information you have already provided there.
Almost every company has social media profiles as it is rather essential to engage with your community these days. Social media also takes a lot of time and effort to consistently post and build an online presence. Show off your hard work and add more people to your community by using a QR code to link to your social media.
This is great for when you don’t want to use your social media content as your digital signage content, but still, want your audience to know where to join your online community.
Though you can just put any information right onto your digital signage screen, sometimes it is helpful to be able to give your audience a QR code that pulls up the information so they can review it at their own convenience.
QR codes are also great for landing sales pages as sometimes it is more effective to not be so “sales-y” in your digital signage content itself. A separate sales page linked using a QR code is also a great way to get a conversion as you could have a “book now” or “buy now” button that takes them to a checkout right on their phone.
We all love videos! That is why sites like YouTube are so popular! Why not use a QR code to direct your audience to an informative or entertaining video? For instance, if you have a product that needs more explanation, you may put a QR code on the digital signage screen next to it that will pull up a demonstration video for them!
Do your customers need instructions for something? Allow them to get those instructions right on their phones using a QR code in your digital signage content.
So for example, maybe you own a retail store where customers can customize products. At the front of the store, you could place your digital signage screen with a QR code that pulls up instructions on how to go through the customization process and get the final product.
This way, they can walk through the store and reference the instructions without even being in sight of the screen.
Here at Play Digital Signage, it is simple to use QR codes in your digital signage content. Since we are compatible with a large number of widgets and plugins, there’s no complicated process to include as many QR codes as you would like in your digital signage content.
With Play Digital Signage, you can use a QR code widget which will allow you to customize and generate a QR code for any of the uses we have described and more in your digital signage.
The QR code widget is HTML-based. This means that they are custom-coded widgets that integrate into your content; however, you don’t need any coding knowledge to use them!
Though there are dozens of other HTML widgets you can use in your digital signage content, the QR code widget is the perfect choice for including QR codes.
