How to schedule content

In contrast to normal signs, it’s very easy to schedule content for certain times of day with digital signage. We’ll use an example of a cafeteria that has 3 playlists:

  • Menu
  • Lunch
  • Breakfast special

To spice things up, we want to display Breakfast special in addition to the usual menu during morning hours (8:00 – 10:00) and during lunch time our cafeteria wants to lunch menu instead of the usual menu.

The concept

Screens are grouped together in groups that should play the same content – you can also think of it as one location. Each group has a ‘base playlist’ and optional schedules. Thinking goes that group plays base playlist by default and schedules are exceptions to that rule. You can schedule either one playlist or a sequence of playlists to be played at certain times.

Creating a group

First we need to create a group with a base playlist ‘Menu’, then drag & drop our screen to that group

Adding schedules

Since we want to play ‘Breakfast special’ in addition to the ‘Menu’ playlist, we’ll schedule a sequence of 2 playlists to be played between 08:00 – 10:00

Scheduling breakfast

For lunch however we only want to display ‘Lunch’ playlist, so we’ll just schedule one playlist between 12:00 and 14:00Scheduling lunch

When done, our schedules look like this:

Now we need to hit ‘Publish’ and the player will download all the playlists that are scheduled

Advanced scheduling

The schedules can be fine-tuned further by adding a start date, stop date or both. This way you can create schedules in advance or expire certain schedules after some time. Taking the cafeteria example further, we could create a Christmas special menu that would be only played between 22.12 – 25.12

You can also specify certain days of week (Monday, Tuesday, …) for which the schedule is active. Our cafe could have an extra menu only on weekends.

It’s also worth mentioning that it’s possible to add ‘conditions’ to certain slides in the playlist itself. You can find the options in the editor when opening up slide options:
